Lesson Plan
Objective
Students will be able to use proper English language, imagination, and creativity to write short stories based illustrations or prompts presented.
Materials Needed
- Picture or Prompt
- Paper and Pencil or Online Notepad Lesson1. Ask students what they enjoy about writing or reading. Discuss imporant elements of creativy writing such as what it is, when it's used, and how you can do it.
2. Write the following words on the board: Setting, Character, Event, Solution, Problem 3. Present a picture to the class and ask them to think of a story based on said picture 4. Have either (a) the class brainstorm together to fill out the sections of the story based on the words presented on the board and (b) have students pair up and come up with answers for each section 5. Review with students about the choices made based on the picture provided. 6. Provide another picture for a class example and challenge students to see the picture in different ways than they might first observe it as. Encourage them to keep their minds open and work through another example with them. 7. Provide students with other pictures (whether together or individually) to continue practice on free writing/creative writing. 8. Work with students to create an authentic and original piece of work. |
Assessment and Evaluation
Students will complete an essay that will be assessed by the instructor based on grammar rules, story creativity, and participation in activity.
Outcome
Students will be able to use proper English and grammar rules to write an original, creative story based on a prompt or photo. Students will also know what creative writing is and why, how, and when it can be used.
Accommodation and Modifications
The teacher can work with students in small groups for those who need extra assistance.
